In a world where the light seems to dim as clouds roll in, it is easy to forget. It’s easy to forget the light behind the clouds, the goodness and blessings that cover us daily. It’s easy to forget that we all count. We all matter. We all matter to Him who created us.
Last week, I had a minor setback with my writing goals. I did what most would do. (And if you wouldn’t, keep it to yourself. No need to make those of us who do feel worse. ;) ) I had a mini self-pity party. It didn’t last long, just long enough to give it that label. Any who, in a moment of weakness, I posted on social media that I could go for a 14-layer chocolate cake for supper. I kept its reasoning to myself, of course. After all, eating your troubles away … who does that?! Within a handful of hours, I had two pieces in my kitchen. The next night, I had two more pieces hand-delivered to my house after dark. Three ladies, three dear, wonderful friends who had no idea what was going on, read a social media post and acted. Knowing these pieces of deliciousness were a part of different birthday cakes made it all the more special. In other words, those birthday individuals (husband/father) acted too. Do you know how hard it is to look at a 14-layer chocolate cake and let it go?
Then there are my beloved girls. Oh, thank You, God for girls! Without being asked or told, both of my daughters make sure this mama is hydrated in South Georgia heat. I realize I’m in the minority here, but I love walking/running in 90-something degree weather. (Guess that’s what happens to the person who stays cold 340 days of the year.) My precious kiddos may not agree with my walking weather, but they sure know how to take care of me when the exercise is finished. They meet me in the driveway or at the back door with a tall glass of ice water as soon as I press STOP on the watch. Today, one even met me on the road, halfway through my walk, handing me a cup so I could survive the second half. Would boys think of that? ;)
I realize those two examples may be insignificant to you and you may be thinking, “I could have taken out the trash instead of wasting a minute and a half reading that.” But the point is, it mattered to me. I matter to God. Cake from friends and water from children were acts of love, carried out with an unspoken encouragement to keep going. Keep writing. Keep walking.
Those clouds – they will blow on by. They’re just moving obstacles in the sky. The Light – He is constant. He is stationary. He never dims. Look for your blessings, even under the clouds of this life. Share your blessings with others. Be excited about what God has done for you, large and small. Encourage. Act.
Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.
